Here is a rare Llewellin time check machine which I found in need of some TLC and which I fully restored in 2024.

The front brass plate has a window to indicate the current clocking-in period, and 5 slots for workers to put their own numbered check into. The slots all led to the same internal chute so any slot could be used, allowing the machine to process multiple workers simultaneously

To use this type of time recorder, each worker was allocated a numbered check which they inserted into the machine on arrival at work. These checks were usually stored on a rack adjacent to the clock

For this particular machine each worker had two checks, one brass for clocking in in the morning, and the other copper for the afternoon

An internal brass drum stamped with 8 different time periods is rotated in synchronised steps by the clock mechanism. This specific model displays the time periods 8.00, 8.05, 8.30, 8.35, 1.45, 2.00, 2.05, and 12.00. Presumably, the time settings were customisable when ordering the machines

When the checks were inserted, they fell into a chute which rotates with the central drum. This timed rotation directs the checks to the corresponding time-stamped section of a segmented circular tray at the bottom of the machine

The time period segmented tray at the bottom of the machine is accessible and removable by opening a locked section of the front panel. At the end of the working day, the time clerk would record which time section the check numbers were located in, and return all of the checks to the check board
